Who we are
CodeMapr is operated by Codemapr, LLC (“CodeMapr,” “we,” “us”). This policy covers two things:
- This website, codemapr.com, where businesses learn about CodeMapr and contact us.
- The CodeMapr service, which runs on the websites of businesses that use CodeMapr. On those websites, we process information on behalf of that business.
The short version
- Your browser asks first. CodeMapr can only receive a location after you click Allow on your browser’s own location prompt. Websites cannot skip that prompt or answer it for you. If you click Block, no location is collected and nothing is sent.
- First-party data. Information comes only from visitors to a business’s own website and is used only for that business’s campaigns. It is not combined with other businesses’ data, and it is not bought from or sold to data brokers.
- We never sell data. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.
- No names. CodeMapr does not collect names. Postcards are addressed to “Current Resident.”
- No cross-site tracking. CodeMapr runs only on the website you are visiting. It does not follow you to other websites.
How location permission works
When you visit a website that uses CodeMapr, your browser shows its standard prompt asking whether the site may know your location. The choice is yours:
- Allow: your browser shares one location reading for that visit.
- Block: no location is shared and CodeMapr sends nothing.
To avoid asking repeatedly, CodeMapr sets a small cookie on that website that remembers the prompt was shown, and does not ask again for 24 hours. You can withdraw location access at any time in your browser’s site settings.
What the CodeMapr service collects
Only after you click Allow, CodeMapr collects:
- Precise location coordinates and their reported accuracy
- IP address and browser type
- The page visited, including any campaign parameters in its web address
- The Google Analytics visitor identifier the business’s own website has already set, if present
- The date and time of the visit
CodeMapr does not collect:
- Your name, email address or phone number
- Anything from other websites you visit
- Your location before you click Allow, or ever if you click Block
- Continuous location tracking: one location reading is taken for that visit
How it is used
- Trade area check. If the location is outside the area the business serves, it is discarded and not stored.
- Address match. The location is converted into the nearest street address. Readings too imprecise to identify a single household are not converted.
- Verification. The address is checked to confirm it is a deliverable residence. Businesses, vacant lots and undeliverable addresses are excluded.
- One relevant postcard. A verified household may receive a postcard from the business whose website was visited. No household receives more than one CodeMapr mailing from the same business within 30 days. Some verified households are deliberately not mailed so the business can measure whether the mail made a difference.
- Measuring results. Mailed and unmailed households may be compared with the business’s own sales records to measure campaign results.
Information is used only for these purposes, and only for the business whose website was visited.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the service providers needed to run CodeMapr, and only for the purposes below:
- Google: Converts location coordinates into a street address, provides cloud data storage, and provides analytics for this website.
- AccuZIP: Checks that an address is a valid, deliverable residence under USPS standards.
- Poplar: Prints and mails postcards, and suppresses repeat mailings to the same household.
- Amazon Web Services: Hosts the CodeMapr service and its database.
- Wix: Hosts this website and stores contact form submissions.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
How it is protected
The CodeMapr database cannot be reached from the public internet. Access is limited to authorized personnel, and each business’s data is kept separate and used only for that business.
How long it is kept
We keep information for as long as it is needed to provide the service to the business and to measure its campaigns. We delete a business’s data at its request.
Your choices
- Don’t share location: click Block on the browser prompt, or turn off location access for the site in your browser settings.
- Stop mail or delete data: ask the business whose website you visited, or contact us. We will remove your address from future mailings and delete associated data as applicable law requires.
- Know what we hold: depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information. Contact us to make a request.
This website
If you submit our contact form, we collect the details you enter (such as your name, company, email, phone and message) and use them only to respond to you. Submissions are stored with Wix, which hosts this website. Wix may set cookies needed to run and secure the site.
We use Google Analytics to understand how this website is used: which pages are viewed, how visitors arrived, the type of device and browser, approximate location (city level, derived from IP address), and actions such as submitting the contact form or using the pricing calculator. Google Analytics sets cookies to tell visits apart. Google processes this information on our behalf, and we do not use it for advertising. You can opt out with Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser.
The CodeMapr location service does not run on this website.
Businesses that use CodeMapr
Each business decides whether to install CodeMapr on its website. Every business using CodeMapr is required to describe it in its own privacy policy, including that location shared on its website may be used to send a postcard to the matching address.
Children
CodeMapr is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
We will post any changes to this policy here and update the date above.
